A tree grows in Brooklyn.

"A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" (sorry, couldn't pass it up) tells of a protagonist who thrives in adverse circumstances, which seems to be this tree's story as well. It's just east of the ice house and appears to be a Paulownia or Empress tree notable for extremely large leaves (which haven't arrived yet in this springtime photo). April 2005. Night photo shoot NRHS convention

Night photo shoot for NRHS convention July 2005. Both the SP 4449 and SP&S 700 were fired up; at this moment it was the 700's turn to be photographed on the turntable. The person directing the shoot tells photographers when to open their shutters, then assistants "paint" the locomotive with light from handheld flashes. Photo by Terry Thompson.

Spare tires for SP 4449 driversSpare tires for SP 4449 drivers are 80 inches in diameter. Years of subsequent rain have washed it off, but at one time it bore the legend in soapstone "INFLATE TO 10,000 PSI". Photo by Art Burkhalter.
